The many very positive reviews for the Waring Ice Crusher state very well how well it performs under optimum conditions. They are well deserved. However, if you look at the negative reviews (typically one star), they add a note of caution. The negatives reviews will sometimes state that the crusher can get stuck when large ice cubes are fed into the feeder. When this happens repeatedly over a period of time, the blades can begin to slip to the point where the machine becomes inoperable. This happened to me. Since I very much like the way this machine crushes ice, I bought another unit over a year ago but this time I made sure that I also bought a couple of ice cube trays that make small cubes and that much less stress on the blades. There are any number of trays that will accomplish this goal. I chose the Camco 44100 Mini Ice Cube Tray available here on Amazon. I now expect to get many years of addition use from this product without a problem.
Gave this ice crusher to my husband for Father's Day, yesterday. Actually I gave it to him a day early so he could give it some early test runs before the Father's Day family gathering. IT WORKS ABSOLUTELY FANTASTIC! Easy, easy, easy to use and cleanup. It was used all day long, and a couple people fed the crushed ice back through for an even finer crush! Everyone had their favorite ice in their cocktails and beverages. NO THIS IS NOT FOR MAKING SNOW CONES. But that's ok, we don't want that.
This works very good. I buy bagged ice so this helps to chop it down a bit more. From the other reviews of it not lasting, hopefully this will as I am not putting in tray size cubes.
sad story about this product. i bought it & use travel adapter to make it run. less than 1 minute the motor burn & the smoke coming from the fuse. sent it back for replacement & amazon gave me new one. then i bought new travel adapter & plug it in. this time it survive 3 minutes before it end with explosion to the motor & my new travel adapter. Now i realized, this ice crusher run in 110V while the place where i live the source came in 220V. travel adapter can't help me. i should use power inverter to convert from 220V to 110V. Due to my carelessness, i lost my ice crusher that cost me nearly 100 usd. i wish they mentioned precisely in the product manual that for country that having different voltage, they need to use power inverter in order to avoid any accident. i wish i can buy this product again but financially not allow me to do so. price now 90 usd compare to 69 usd before. the product look stunning. i'm happy if they send me again the replacement since i gave the sincere review about this product.
LOVE>>>LOVE>>>LOVE I'm a ice junkie (1 gallon a day in water weight), and this ice crusher is the best for delivering crispy, crunchy morsels of ice. ( Disclaimer: I "double grind my ice with the machine to achieve ice crunching perfection. Plus, I don't want to damage my teeth). The Waring Pro IC70 is the second one I've owned in about four years. The first one broke after about four years, but only because I inadvertently stuck an ice pick down the ice feed and jammed the ice feeding apparatus. So I replaced it with another of the same.
EDIT: The 1st one stopped working right after a month of use. The company replaced it out of the goodness of their heart. That was May/June. The 2nd one stopped working yesterday. So barely 6 mths of use for 2 machines. Very disappointed in this machine. I don't recommend it nor will I buy it again. :( So, far works flawlessly. I use it multiple times per day with different types of ice - refrigerator ice, and store bought - and so far, no issues.
This is an awsome machine. I researched many ice crushers, and read so many awful reviews on so many products that I had almmost didn't purchase one at all. I wanted an ice crusher really bad for summer drinks, and debated for several before deciding to buy one. Free shipping from Amazon. I would only be out a few bucks for shipping return so I decided to go for it. I'm glad I did. The ice crusher is very light weight, looks great on the counter, has rubber feet on the bottom, comes with a cone shapped dispenser that sits atop the machine where you feed the ice in, and it very simple to use. It has preformed flawlessly! I use it one to two times a week. It makes 12 cups of crushed ice in just a few minutes, I usually make 24 and store it in a baggie in the freezer. It's never jammed up, you don't have to hang on to it while crushing ice, it doesn't jump all over the counter, and doesn't spit ice back up at you while in operation. I am extremely pleased with this purchase, worth every penny. Can't say one bad thing about it. Even comes with a great recipie for Mojitos!
I had a Sur La Table hand-cranked ice crusher that broke after 2 months of only making crushed ice about once a day for two double old-fashioned cocktails. After reading the many glowing testimonials of compulsive ice chewers (thanks for being so honest) who put this item through tough usage crushing ice multiple times a day, I knew this machine was the real deal. It looks great in an industrial way and delivers nicely crushed ice without straining. I am very happy with this machine. The size of the crushed ice (roughly 1/4" to 2/3") is perfect for most cocktails or cold drinks. It is quiet, powerful and reliable (and looks great on my bar). I can't keep track of how many times I pinched my fingers on the hand-cranked machine. My parents had an all-metal one back in the 60's that worked well and I remembered fondly, but the present day plastic ones aren't worth the headache. If you need crushed ice for cocktails, cold drinks, (or munching) you won't be sorry getting this ice crusher.
Thanks to so many positive reviews, I was willing to try this machine out... and have not been disappointed so far. More information: 1) Right now, only using it to make one tall (25 oz) iced drink per day. 2) Not all of the ice is crushed into tiny little pieces, but I'm okay with that. 3) I do not use ice cubes made in my refrigerator/freezer: this may be a key reason for some of the bad reviews, where people complained of jams (the ice makers in my last two refrigerators were horrible and broke/jammed all the time!). I only use store-bought ice, such as the kind that comes in chunks or is cylindrical in shape. 4) Given the above, the Waring ice crusher has not jammed once over the past 2 months. For an $80 machine, I think it is a good value for the money. *Update* 4/2014: this ice crusher is still working and there have been no problems.
If there is a negative to the Waring Pro, it involves a probably unrealistic expectation on my part. I had expected finer ice--I supposed "shaved" is the correct term--like what you might find in a snow cone. Well, that's not what I get. The ice is simply ground into pieces of varying sizes, from some as small as a kernel of corn or a pea to others as big as a grape (although not, of course, of any uniform shape). That being said, I am still delighted with the purchase. It does indeed produce copious quantities of crushed ice with minimum fuss. Just throw the toggle switch to "on" and feed ice cubes into the hopper on top. Then stand by while the cubes are pulled into the feeding mechanism and watch your ice chips accumulate in the large plastic container on the bottom of the machine. Nothing else left to do but put the crushed ice into a tall glass with an appropriate liquid and enjoy! I had to experiment a bit to find out how fast I could dump cubes into the hopper without causing the feeder to clog (and when it does clog, by the way, clearing the clog is easy), but now that I have the rhythm down, clogging is pretty much a thing of the past. Before I purchased the Waring, I used to crush ice by putting cubes in a cloth bag and whacking at them with a wooden mallet. While that might seem like a good way to let out some aggression, I usually found instead that I would become frustrated and impatient getting through the job. The ease with which I can do the job now makes it well worth the cost of the Waring. The machine seems sturdy. Unless abused, the plastic hopper and collection container aren't going to break from normal use. From the weight of the machine, it's obvious that there's some serious metal in the mechanical section between the hopper and container, and the "on"/"off" toggle switch feels solid. I expect to be enjoying no hassle crushed ice from this machine for years to come.
